Edible Patterns!

To continue some pattern making, we made apple jack necklaces with various patterns. We loved making the patterns, but really enjoyed snacking while working too! Look for patterns throughout your home or when you are out and about with your child, you could even turn it into an eye-spy game!

Making Patterns!

We have started talking about patterns this week. We were able to first do some sound and motion patterns together as a whole group. The students really liked coming up with some fun sound patterns. Some examples we shared included: chicka, chicka, boom, boom, chicka, chicka, boom, boom, another was tee, tee, ta, tee, tee, ta, and another was tick, tock, tick, tock. They had fun creating their own to share. Today we started working with some color blocks to make some different patterns. Check out the fun!

Handwriting with Dry Erase Boards!

Today we did some handwriting and practiced the letters c and e. We are starting with the dry erase boards and will eventually be moving onto lined paper. They all did a great job with this today.

Telling Our Stories

Here is a look at what our oral storytelling time looks like. We have one storyteller in the chair and the rest of us are the listening audience. The audience has a job as well, they are to not only listen, but think if there is anything else the storyteller may have left them wondering about. The audience then gets a chance to ask some questions for clarification.

A Look At Some Things We've Been Doing

Here are some of the books we have read over the past few weeks. Ask your child to tell you about one of them, or what their favorite story was so far. We also have started some oral story telling in preparation for writer's workshop. The students are going to be asked to tell about a true story from his/her own life, that they can write about. Check out the list...talk to your child about some of their special experiences they could tell the class about and eventually put down into words and pictures on paper.

Library Fun

Today we went to the library and Mrs. Zerbe, our new librarian, read us a story about friendship. We have library every day 3. Please make sure to get those books back so that your child can bring another fun book home to share with you!

Our Last September Birthday

Today we celebrated Mia's birthday. She was so excited, but I think she was even more excited to move her picture from the age 5 strip to the age 6 strip. That part of the day could not come soon enough for her. She brought in yummy iced and sprinkled brownies, along with a lollipop treat to take home. Thanks so much for the treats Mia! We hope you had a great 6th birthday!

Colorful Fur Balls!

After reading and writing, we then did another cat's color activity. The students had to reach into a mystery box and pull out a fur ball. After selecting a fur ball and naming the color the students had to place it in the correct cat's color baggie. After we all had a turn we then took a look each bag and did some comparing to see which cat had the most, least, same, or no fur balls. Take a look at the group pictures from the activity!

Colors!

We have been doing some color activities this week in class. Today we read the book, Cat's Colors. The cat made us wonder what his favorite color was throughout the story, and we were finally able to see what his favorite color was by the end of the book. Above is what we discovered and then wrote as a class.

Today was our first visit to the computer lab. This year we are lucky to have all new computers in the lab to use. The kids did a great job today and we learned about and worked with the website called "Starfall". This kid friendly and very loved site works on many phonics and reading building skills. You can easily get on this website from home and I'm sure your child would love it. I have the link posted under the list of kindergarten websites. Check it out! Here we are working like busy little beavers!!

Birthday, Birthday, and More Birthdays!

Since we have been celebrating so many birthdays this week. We as a class made a birthday graph to display in the classroom. Our graph allows the students to move their picture from the age 5 group over to the age 6 group on their special day. We have four friends so far that have turned six and 19 other anxious friends ready to grow one year older!

Six is Special!

Another one of our friends turned six today! Elizabeth was the birthday girl and she wore a beautiful little crown to celebrate. We were able to share cupcakes and she even surprised us all with a party bag filled with goodies to take home. Happy Birthday Elizabeth! We hope you had a great day!

Today we celebrated Isaac's birthday. Isaac's birthday is on September 5th, but since we were out of school, we celebrated his special day today! We were able to sing to him and enjoy some yummy oatmeal chocolate-chip cookies! Not only did we enjoy the day with Isaac, but Elle also had her actual birthday today! We were able to sing to her, but we plan to celebrate further with Elle on Friday! Happy Birthday to the both of you! We hope you enjoyed your day!!

All Together at Last!!

Here we are all finally together for a group picture after a fun, but hot recess!
We couldn't resist...we had to do a silly pose too! :)
